This matters because the question hides a common confusion. Where to find your supplier and MPAN on a business bill

Your supplier name sits at the top of your electricity bill. Your MPAN (Meter Point Administration Number) is your 21-digit electricity supply number, usually shown in a grid headed with the letter S, or labelled Supply Number. The top rows carry the profile class, meter time-switch code and line loss factor, and the bottom row is the 13-digit core that uniquely identifies your supply point. The MPAN is on the bill, not stamped on the meter, so if you cannot find a bill you can still recover it: use the find my MPAN number tool or contact your DNO, whose records show both the MPAN and the supplier currently registered against it.

No bill, just moved in, or out of contract?

If you have just taken on premises and inherited an unknown supply, the supplier you find is likely to be a deemed contract: the rate set by whichever supplier was already registered, and almost always more expensive than a negotiated tariff. The same applies if a previous fixed-term deal has lapsed and rolled onto out-of-contract rates. The fix is to identify the supplier and contract status quickly, then tender the renewal. What is an MPAN and where do I find it?

An MPAN (Meter Point Administration Number) is your 21-digit electricity supply number, sometimes called the Supply Number or the grid headed with an S on your bill. The first two digits are the distribution ID identifying your DNO region. The MPAN is printed on your electricity bill, not on the meter itself. The bottom row, 13 digits long, is the unique core that identifies your specific supply point.

Can a business switch electricity supplier?

Yes. The GB electricity market is fully deregulated, so any UK business can switch to any of the 30+ licensed suppliers when its contract allows. The key is your contract end date: most business electricity contracts have a fixed term and a renewal window, and switching outside that window can mean costly deemed or out-of-contract rates.
