Purely Insights capability
Purely Insights integrations, exports and data ownership
Purely Insights is built so the data leaves as easily as it arrives. Every account gets CSV, Excel, PDF and board-pack exports, a read-only JSON API for finance, BI, ESG and BMS systems, and webhook alerts alongside email and SMS. The consumption data belongs to the customer, and it stays exportable for the life of the account plus 12 months.

The read-only JSON API feeds finance, BI, ESG and BMS systems
Purely Insights exposes a read-only JSON API on request, so half-hourly electricity, gas and water data can sit inside the systems that already run the business. Finance teams pull meter-level consumption into cost models, BI teams join it to production or occupancy data, ESG teams feed Scope 1 and Scope 2 reporting, and BMS integrators use it to check that a control strategy is doing what it claims. Read-only means the API moves data out and never changes anything in the platform.
A published anonymised example shows what that is worth. A cold storage operator with four sites and 18 GWh of electricity used the Insights API to feed the Flex desk model directly, which allowed the tranche cadence to move from monthly to weekly. The result was a £74k advantage over the prior purchasing strategy. Nothing about that depends on a bespoke build: the same feed is available to any account, at meter level, with up to 6 years of history where supplier data flows allow.
- Read-only JSON API, available on request
- Half-hourly electricity, gas and water at meter level
- Sub-meter data at circuit, sub-circuit and asset level where installed
- Up to 6 years of history where supplier data flows allow
Exports run from a raw CSV to a board-pack PDF
Not every request needs an integration. Purely Insights exports to CSV, Excel, PDF and a board-pack PDF, at whatever level the question needs: site, building, meter or circuit, aggregated hourly, daily, weekly, monthly or annually, and drilled down to a single half-hour where that matters. Comparisons can be weather-adjusted using heating and cooling degree days, so a year-on-year figure in a board pack reflects operational change rather than a mild winter.
Compliance work is covered by the same export layer. Purely Insights produces SECR, ESOS Phase 4, ISO 50001 evidence pack and CDP exports, built on Scope 1 gas and Scope 2 electricity emissions tracked on both a location and a market basis, using the latest published DEFRA carbon factors and refreshed annually. Site-against-site benchmarking with quartile and outlier views exports alongside the numbers, so a finance director can see which sites are carrying the portfolio and which are dragging it.
- CSV, Excel, PDF and board-pack PDF
- SECR, ESOS Phase 4, ISO 50001 evidence pack, CDP
- Scope 1 gas and Scope 2 electricity, location and market based

Webhook alerts push events into the systems that act on them
Alerts leave the platform by email, SMS or webhook, which means an event can land in a service desk, a maintenance queue or a BMS routine rather than an inbox. Thresholds are configurable per meter and per sub-meter in kWh, kW, pounds or kgCO2e, and can be sent as a real-time trigger or a daily digest with escalation routing. Anomaly detection covers weekend usage, overnight spikes, missing reads and holiday baselines.
The same channel carries the commercial events. Renewal-window alerts fire at 12, 9 and 6 months before contract end, and peak-demand and DUoS red-band exposure is flagged before the charge reaches the bill. A published anonymised example: a multi-academy trust of 22 schools found six sites with weekend baseload above 8 kW, reset the BMS across all six, and projected a £41k saving for the academic year.
Thresholds work best when they are set against a reference point. Industry typical baseload for offices and schools runs at 15 to 25 percent of total kWh, and anything above 35 percent usually indicates a BMS schedule or always-on plant fault. Those are published industry ranges rather than Purely measurements, but they make a sensible starting threshold before your own history builds up.
- Alert channels: email, SMS, webhook
- Thresholds per meter and sub-meter in kWh, kW, £ or kgCO2e
- Real-time triggers or daily digest, with escalation routing
- Renewal-window alerts at 12, 9 and 6 months before contract end
The data belongs to the customer, during supply and after it
Purely Insights is included free with every Purely Energy supply contract, with no per-meter fee, no kit-rental fee and no hidden uplift on the unit rate, and the data it produces belongs to the customer rather than to us. It is held in the UK. Access is role-based with an audit trail, unlimited users per account and permissions set per site, group or function, so finance, facilities and ESG can each see the part of the portfolio they are accountable for.
Leaving does not cost you the record. Customers keep all consumption data and can export it as CSV, JSON or Excel for the life of the account plus 12 months. The dashboard goes read-only at the end of supply, while the exports stay live for that full 12 months. Where Purely has supplied and installed wireless or clip-on sub-metering, the sensors sit on our balance sheet, not yours, and they are returned at no notice cost if you go elsewhere.
Security sits behind all of it. Purely Energy holds Cyber Essentials Plus and ISO 9001, ISO 27001 certification is in progress, and all Insights data is stored with UK data residency. The platform runs in current and current-1 versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, so nobody needs a specific browser build to pull a report.

Frequently asked questions
- How do we get the JSON API turned on?
- The read-only JSON API is available on request once the account is live. Contract sign to live dashboard takes 7 to 14 working days, and the API sits on the same data: half-hourly electricity, gas and water at meter level, plus sub-meter data where sensors are installed. It is read-only, so it can move data into finance, BI, ESG or BMS systems without writing anything back.
- What happens to our data if we leave Purely Energy?
- You keep it. All consumption data remains the customer's, and it stays exportable as CSV, JSON or Excel for the life of the account plus 12 months. The dashboard switches to read-only at the end of supply while the export function stays live for those 12 months. Any wireless or clip-on sub-metering Purely installed is our hardware and is returned at no notice cost.
- Is there a charge for the API or the exports?
- No. Purely Insights is included free with every Purely Energy supply contract, and that includes the API, every export format and the monthly reconciliation pack. There is no per-meter fee, no kit-rental fee, no minimum portfolio size and no separate Insights invoice. The platform is funded by a disclosed broker margin on supply of 0.3p to 1.0p per kWh depending on volume and term, shown line-by-line on every quote and renewal.
- Can alerts trigger an action in our own systems?
- Yes. Alerts can be delivered by webhook as well as email and SMS, so a threshold breach can open a ticket, start a BMS routine or post into a monitoring tool. Thresholds are set per meter and per sub-meter in kWh, kW, pounds or kgCO2e, delivered in real time or as a daily digest, with escalation routing.
Insights comes with the contract, not a licence fee
